12 Fashion Labels on the iPhone
Where’s fashion headed? Who has an iPhone app? We’ve picked out a dozen high end & high street fashion labels to check out.
A few quick thoughts:
- The Chanel & Dolce Gabbana apps are streamlined and elegant. Beautiful imagery, as expected.
- Chanel makes nice use of iPhone’s movement sensor. Flip the phone to view matching accessories.
- Though clean and streamlined, the Zara app has received a rap over the knuckles for not including any text, whatsoever, in their app. Nice picture, but what colours & sizes does it come in? Where can I buy it? etc.
- It will be interesting to see what happens with the Victoria’s Secret app since Apple have recently announced plans to rule out “skin, swimsuits and innuendo”.
- Not many apps incorporate commerce, they are mainly designed as an ‘in your hand’ catalogue or a ‘vanity app’. Those that do, link to their main website to complete the transaction, with mixed results.
- Ralph Lauren has some nice video vignettes (it’s just a shame that video chews up so much bandwidth). Please can Aus move to ‘all you can eat’ plans like the States!?
- Gucci are the only app to incorporate a music element (which makes sense considering iPhone’s seamless relationship to iTunes). They have a cool drag & drop turntable feature. It does take some a while to figure out what to do though, as there are no instructions.
- Hugo Boss have incorporated use of the camera in their app to take a photo of an item you want to colour match from their collection.
